Reviews
Computer Act!ve, Issue 226 Several members of the Computer Act!ve team have recently become parents, so our interest in knitting is at an all-time high. Of course, that still doesn't equate to an interest level of great height but at least we had someone in the office genuinely excited at the chance of learning how to knit one, purl one. The good news is that, so far as this kind of product usually goes, Rowan Knitting Know-How isn't at all bad. Presentation is clean and there are plenty of narrated video sections, detailing such elemental aspects as how to hold needles to improving the shaping of the developing knitware. It also includes a glossary of knitting terms and abbreviations.
Micro Mart, Issue 918 Knitting Know-How is a bit like stepping into a parallel universe. Far from the expected Women's Institute feel, this attempts, and almost succeeds, in making knitting cool. You will be amazed how quickly you will be making your first real knitting project,' it says, in bold type. And it might well be right, providing that you have some needles and a ball of yarn. Actually, even if you don't, you might find that you've learnt how to do it anyway - it's that good. Knitting Know-How has managed to completely do away with the idea that knitting could be difficult, instead turning it into something that you could apparently do with your eye shut. The instructions are so clear and simple that you find yourself wondering why we can't all churn out our own scarves. Even better, the accompanying videos, should you need them, are so relaxing that you might find yourself slipping into a hypnogogic state while you're doing it. This is a cracking bit of software.
