"The original Outrun arcade machine was notable as much for its Ferrari-shaped, hydraulically powered cabinet as for the fast-paced road-racing game players enjoyed once in the driving seat. There's no easy way to emulate the moving cabinet on a home PC, but with Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, Sega has taken its original arcade game and updated it in numerous welcome ways. We should perhaps confess to being addicts of the original arcade game, so a rosy view of Outrun 2006 was inevitable. However, we're glad to report that it is a fun pick-up-and-play arcade game in it's own right. Sega has not messed with the pure fun of the original but has bolted on a load of extras. We think these add-ons are fab: there are 15 cars to choose from (compared to one in the original)and 30 tracks to race over. But all the while, it feels like playing classic Outrun, albeit with superior graphics and music (fret not retro fans - Magical Sound Shower and Splashwave are still on the in-car audio system). Multiplayer and online-play modes are also on offer, which further adds to the joy. Overall score ****"

"OUTRUN WAS ONE of the 80's iconic arcade racing games. Forget realism, it was all about fun, excitement and getting your Farrari to the finish line before anyone else. The graphics are vastly prettier, the all important fun-factor is intact. You can unlock a swankier Farrari by winning lots of races. Verdict - This is arcade racing at its simplistic best ***"
